Rumba (origin from Cuba)

  1. Head up (eye contact with partner)
  2. Rotate Hip, then foot
  3. Judges cares posture
  4. Smile
  5. Connect to the floor
  6. Small step good, big step bad
  7. Backward walk, toe-heel-hip
  8. Emphasize on connection with partner in terms of: hand, eye, choreography and center
Cha Cha (origin from Cuba)
  • Cha cha lock: should not only toe hip, should be the paw, it's a continuous action;no flat hip, 2 legs should be bend
  • Spot turn: Hip-center-turn to hip-center-hip
  • New york: Hip-center-50%weight on both foot
  • Side step: light and shaded, contrast in speed(slow and quick)
Samba
  • action should be natural and continuous
  • (Shadow/Travelling) Boto fogos: bend(forward 45')-toe-bend leg-head face to the direction where i am travelling
Jive( origin from America)
  • pendulum like side walk
Paso Doble (origin from Spain, developed in France)
  • heel step on the floor first
  • man as matador/bullfighter
  • women as cape
  • hip down, chest down, NOT chest up
  • Sixteen: while changing position, hands should not be straight

What you are doing (10%):
  • steps
  • choreography
How you are doing (90%):
  • Static principles: hold, posture, center
  • Dynamic principle: turn, sway(side walk), swing (forward-backwalk)
Individuality = Timing with music and partner!
